What is DNS?
DNS (Domain Name System) — is a hierarchical and decentralized naming system. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participating entities and allows to identify their IP addresses.
A hierarchical system is evident in the domain address structure. Each of address components divided by dots is correspond to a domain (or a zone). When user enters a web page address in address bar, the system checks the relevance of this name with server IP address, where the website is located, and after which it’s directed to a relevant website.
An important benefit of DNS is that any specific name server mustn’t contain a description of whole DNS name hierarchy in its local database.
