Using a CNAME record to automatically detect mail servers in Outlook and Thunderbird clients
Such records allow mail clients to automatically pull the correct server settings, which significantly makes the configuration easier for the end user, who simply enters their email address, and other parameters (incoming and outgoing servers) are set automatically, namely mx1.mirohost.net, ports and connection protocols.
To simplify the process of configuring email clients such as Outlook and Thunderbird and make it more user-friendly, you can set up automatic detection of the mail server. This can be done using CNAME records in the DNS settings of the domain.
A CNAME record allows the email client to automatically find servers for sending and receiving mail without the need for manual data entry by the user.
Important! This instruction is intended only for domains using the mail server mx1.mirohost.net
To do this, you need to:
-
Open the domain DNS control panel
-
Add CNAME records corresponding to your mail provider's service:
The following CNAME records are usually used for Outlook: autodiscover → mail.mirohost.net
For Thunderbird, you can use the record: autoconfig → mail.mirohost.net
- Save the changes and wait for the DNS to update, which usually takes several hours (up to 24 hours).
